Thank you everyone…
I am excited to be with you all as we celebrate my XXXXXXXXX thirty-second celebration of her forty-ninth birthday. The previous sentence allows me to not mention her actual age… but you all know what it is. Actually, when it comes to not showing one’s age, she beats most of them.
Kidding aside, I am grateful that we could come together as a family for such a wonderful milestone in XXXXXXXXXXX's life…a life of goodness, compassion, and incredible patience as the wife of a man such as I; a true A type individual. There is no doubt in my mind that she's earned the status of saint by almost anyone’s measure, not just by her family and friends, but also by the good Lord above. It is great to see our children and their spouses and our grandchildren here to honor her as a person and a soul filled with grace and sophistication… her quiet sincere nature only ads to her beauty and charm. It enhances her tireless devotion to her children and grandchildren, tutoring them and acting as a very special mentor by going on trips with them, and remaining open with them by truly caring and being there for them. As for me, I don’t know what my life would be like without her. I do believe we were soul mates from the start. (Pause)
Before I propose an appropriate toast to my lovely wife, I would like to say a few things about what she means to me, the things she cares about, and how she so freely gives of her time. My love and respect for her is deep and lasting. (Quick Pause) Leo Buscaglia once said this about lasting love: “Love can never grow old. Locks may lose their brown and gold. Cheeks may fade and hollow grow. But the hearts that love will know, never winter's frost and chill, summer's warmth is in them still.”
Her life has, and continues to be, one of service and caring, donating time and energy to helping at dog shelters in the area. In actuality she cares for all living creatures, including elephants and gorillas, and other endangered species around the world. She has also established herself as a caring passionate teacher for disabled children and their families. She has received accolades from everyone who has been touched by her. As a wife to me, and due to her unending patience, she proves my previous statement about earning her saintly wings. I am a very fortunate man to have her by my side as my life partner and such a blessing for me. (Pause)
Service and charity requires humility, compassion, and anonymity, and I know my dear XXXXXXX possesses them all. I love her for her honesty and the way she never expects anything in return. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King; Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?
So let me propose a toast now to a most dignified and precious human being who has reached a most wonderful point in life where she can be proud of her long service to others, not only to her family, but so many others who as God’s creatures deserve to be healthy and happy in His kingdom.
We love you and toast to your presence on earth…an earth that needs as many good deeds as possible, wishing you a Happy Birthday with many more to come. From your family and your proud and thankful husband.
